Federal Route 6 connects Bishop, CA with Provincetown, Massachusetts.  Within the state of California, the route has a dominant north-south configuration.  Entering the state of Nevada, the route starts bending towards the northeast.  From there, an ascent and descent into the Rocky Mountains forms the next segment.  Throughout the rural American  Midwest and skirting by Chicago suburbs, the route funnels motorists along the southern Great Lakes before settling into Massachusetts.
