Oregon State Route 38 connects northern Douglas County with the Pacific coast. Between Curtain and Drain, it seems as if a duplex is formed with Oregon State Route 99. This duplex, up until recent times, was a source of controversy for local motorists. At certain points, only one highway would be shield-posted along the duplex, and shortly afterwards, the next reassurance-shield would contradict the last by solely displaying the other route. Today, both-routes are clearly marked as a duplex from Interstate 5. This should help end the confusion.
