East of Tecate city, the route ascends into the Rumorosa Grade. The grade is mostly composed of giant boulders that seem somewhat adhesed to another. Rock slides are common on Federal Route 2D's climb, so motorists must exercise extra caution when maneuvering through the region's sharp curves.
