The Mount Blanc tunnel, one of the most heralded achievements of modern architecture in Europe and well-noted among travelers worldwide, travels under the Alps at the France-Italy border. The tunnel spans eleven-and-a-half kilometres (or seven-and-two-tenths of a mile) on a two-laned path, and costs thirty euros to cross. In the photograph above, the concrete-tunnel is not the Mount Blanc tunnel itself, yet a point-of-entry for a toll-booth.
