Indiana State Route 37 covers a wide array of terrain throughout its multi-county journey.  Starting from the community of Sulfur, which isn't too far from the Ohio River, the route climbs north into Martinsville and Franklin.  At Indianapolis, the route duplexes with the Interstate 465 beltway.  After a counterclockwise, 130-degree alignment with the beltway, the route re-forges its own path en route to Marion.
