Prior to the construction of Interstate 5, Federal Route 99 had a "split" north of
Sacramento. The two routes, Federal Route 99W and Federal Route 99E, later rejoined in Red
Bluff. In preservation of Federal Route 99W, this Historic sign is erected in Tehama
County. Although this sign is not entirely accurate (should show "Federal Route 99W"
instead of "Federal Route 99"), it nevertheless bridges a gap between the 20th and 21st
centuries.
