For much of its length, State Route 187 straddles the Culver City-Los Angeles city
line. The route, intended by the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans)
never to be shield-posted, may have at certain moments in time been randomly
shield-posted in error. A local resident, Larry Scholnick, mentions that
CalTrans might have "erroneously" (...term made loosely) and
temporarily shield-posted Venice Boulevard at certain spots during route
maintenance.
