Highway 140 has the distinction of being a multi-terrained three-digit state route. In the west, it begins its flatland journey near Interstate 5 and Gustine, passes through a fair-sized city of Merced (pop. ~64,000, 2003 estimate), and climbs its way through the Sierra foothills into Yosemite Nat'l Park.
